"India Orientalis" is a map created by the Dutch cartographer Jodocus Hondius in 1610. Jodocus Hondius (1563–1612) was a renowned Flemish cartographer, engraver, and publisher who played a significant role in the development of cartography during the late 16th and early 17th centuries.

"India Orientalis" refers to the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, including regions like India, Southeast Asia, and parts of the Indonesian archipelago. This map was likely part of Hondius's efforts to produce accurate and detailed maps of various regions of the world.

Hondius was known for his skillful mapmaking and his ability to improve upon existing maps by incorporating the latest geographic knowledge and discoveries. His maps were often based on the works of other notable cartographers of his time, such as Gerardus Mercator. His maps were highly sought after and contributed to the dissemination of geographical knowledge during the Age of Exploration.

Hondius demonstrated an unwavering commitment to staying abreast of the latest geographic insights. He actively engaged with explorers and travelers to glean firsthand knowledge of new territories and maritime routes, ensuring that his maps remained reflective of the ever-evolving world. This dedication to accuracy and detail cemented his status as a respected authority in cartography.

His impact on the field also extended to world maps that blended geographical knowledge with artistic innovation. His maps often showcased not just coastlines and landmasses, but also intricate illustrations of sea creatures and vessels, depicting the spirit of exploration and adventure that characterized his era.

Jodocus Hondius's contributions reverberated far beyond his lifetime. His maps and atlases became coveted possessions among scholars, merchants, and explorers, fostering a deeper understanding of the world's geography. His legacy lives on through subsequent generations of cartographers who drew inspiration from his meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to accuracy. Hondius's maps stand not just as navigational aids but as cultural artifacts that illuminate the intersection of art and science in the context of the Age of Exploration.
