During the mid-19th century, Palestine was a region under Ottoman rule, and it experienced various political, social, and cultural changes. The map was engraved by R. Baker and was published by Joh Tallis in his "The Illustrated Atlas".

Richard Baker (1739-1818) was an English engraver known for his work in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was born in London and began his career as an apprentice to the engraver John Hall. Baker gained recognition for his skill and was appointed as the official engraver to King George III in 1770.

Richard Baker's engravings were primarily focused on portraiture, and he produced numerous portraits of prominent figures of his time, including members of the royal family, politicians, and other notable individuals. His work was highly regarded for its precision and attention to detail.

Baker's engravings were mainly executed in the stipple technique, which involved creating tonal effects using small dots or short strokes. This technique allowed for greater subtlety in capturing the textures and nuances of the subjects he depicted.

Some of Baker's notable works include engravings of King George III, Queen Charlotte, and their children, as well as portraits of prominent figures like William Pitt the Younger and Samuel Johnson. His engravings were widely circulated and reproduced as prints during his lifetime.

Richard Baker's contributions to the art of engraving helped establish him as one of the leading engravers of his era.

John Tallis (1817-1876) was an English publisher and mapmaker who operated in the mid-19th century. He is best known for his production of decorative maps and atlases, which became highly popular during his time.

Tallis started his career as a bookseller and publisher in London. In the 1830s, he formed a partnership with Frederick Tallis, his brother, and together they established the firm "Tallis & Company." Initially, they focused on publishing and selling books, but later shifted their attention to producing maps and atlases.

One of John Tallis's most significant achievements was the creation of "The Illustrated Atlas," which was published between 1849 and 1851. This atlas featured beautifully engraved maps, embellished with decorative vignettes depicting notable landmarks, cities, and scenes from various regions around the world. The maps were accompanied by detailed geographical and historical descriptions.
