The Codex Atlanticus, also known as the Atlantic Codex, is a collection of writings and drawings by Leonardo da Vinci that is housed in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan, Italy. It is one of the largest collections of da Vinci's works and consists of 12 bound volumes that contain over 1,100 pages of notes, drawings, and diagrams on a wide range of topics.

The Codex Atlanticus was named after its large size, as the pages are approximately the same size as those of an atlas. It is believed that da Vinci began compiling the Codex in the early 1480s, and he continued to add to it until his death in 1519. The Codex was later acquired by Pompeo Leoni, a sculptor and art collector, and it eventually came into the possession of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in 1637.

The contents of the Codex Atlanticus are diverse and cover a wide range of subjects, including anatomy, botany, geology, optics, mechanics, and military engineering. The collection also includes da Vinci's sketches and designs for various inventions, including flying machines, water pumps, and war machines. Some of the most famous drawings in the Codex include the Vitruvian Man and the mechanical devices for lifting weights and moving water.

The Codex Atlanticus is a remarkable work of art and science, and it provides insight into da Vinci's genius and his wide-ranging interests. It has been studied and admired by scholars and artists for centuries and remains one of the most important and valuable works of the Italian Renaissance.
