It existed from the 17th century until 1964, when it was merged with the Admiralty (responsible for the Royal Navy) and the Air Ministry (responsible for the Royal Air Force) to form the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The goal of this merger was to centralize defense management and coordination under a single umbrella.
The War Office played a crucial role in the organization, training, equipping, and deployment of the British Army.
