Abraham Ortelius was a renowned Flemish cartographer and geographer who lived from 1527 to 1598. He is best known for his work in the field of cartography, particularly for his world atlas called "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" (The Theatre of the World), which was published in 1570.

Ortelius' atlas was the first modern atlas and consisted of a collection of maps from various sources, compiled into a single volume. One of the notable maps included in his atlas was the "Typus Orbis Terrarum" map, which was a world map that provided a comprehensive and up-to-date depiction of the known world at that time.

Regarding the map of the New World or America, Ortelius included a map titled "Americae Sive Novi Orbis, Nova Descriptio" (A New Description of America or the New World) in his atlas. This map was based on the explorations and discoveries made by European explorers, such as Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, and Ferdinand Magellan.

Ortelius' map of the New World depicted North and South America as separate landmasses, which was a significant contribution to the understanding of the geography of the Americas during that period. The map included various geographical features, rivers, mountains, and place names, along with illustrations of native fauna, flora, and indigenous peoples.

It is important to note that Ortelius' map, like many maps of that time, contained inaccuracies and speculative elements, as the knowledge of the Americas was still evolving. Nevertheless, his work was highly influential and helped shape the European understanding of the New World. Ortelius' atlas played a significant role in the development of modern cartography and laid the foundation for subsequent maps and atlases.
