The map "A New & Accurat Map of the World" and was included in John Speed's work called "Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World," which was the first English atlas of the world. The map was published by Basset & Chiswell in London in 1651.

John Speed (1552/1553 – 1629) was an English cartographer and historian best known for his work as a mapmaker. He was born in Farndon, Cheshire, England, and spent most of his life in London. Speed's maps and atlases were highly influential and made significant contributions to the development of cartography in the early 17th century.

Speed's most famous work is "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine," published in 1611. It was the first atlas of the British Isles and contained detailed maps of each county in England, Scotland, and Wales. The atlas was a huge success and helped popularize the use of maps for educational and decorative purposes.

In addition to his maps of the British Isles, Speed also created maps of other regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. His maps were known for their accuracy and attention to detail, although some geographical inaccuracies were present due to the limited knowledge and available resources of the time.

John Speed's maps were highly sought after and had a significant impact on the perception of geography during his era. They were used by explorers, merchants, and scholars alike. His works were often hand-colored and beautifully engraved, making them not only informative but also aesthetically pleasing.
