"Still Life with Flowers" completed in 1722 is a notable painting by Jan Van Huysum, currently housed in the National Gallery in London.

The painting features a sumptuous arrangement of flowers in a vase, including roses, tulips, hyacinths, and other blooms. The flowers are depicted with great precision and detail, capturing the texture, shape, and color of each individual petal and stem. The arrangement is set against a dark background, which makes the colors of the flowers pop and gives the painting a sense of depth and dimensionality.

One of the most striking elements of this painting is the intricate pattern of light and shadow that Van Huysum has created. The light source appears to be coming from the right-hand side of the composition, casting deep shadows and creating a sense of movement and dynamism. This effect is enhanced by the skillful use of color, with warmer tones used in the light areas and cooler tones used in the shadows.

Another notable detail of this painting is the inclusion of a small butterfly perched on one of the leaves. This adds a touch of naturalism and liveliness to the composition, and emphasizes the connection between the flowers and the wider natural world.

Overall, "Still Life with Flowers" completed in 1722 is a stunning example of Van Huysum's skill as a still-life painter. It demonstrates his ability to capture the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and his mastery of composition, color, and light. It remains one of his most celebrated works and a highlight of the National Gallery's collection.
