The map of the Champagne region by Pierre Mortier, published in 1695, is a detailed and accurate depiction of the region, which was then a province of France. The map is oriented with north to the top and shows the region divided into several parts, each representing a different region of Champagne.

Champagne is a historic region in northeastern France, known for its vineyards and wine production. The map details the administrative divisions, elections, and territories within the Champagne region.

Pierre Mortier (1661-1711) was a Dutch cartographer, engraver, and map publisher who was active during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He was based in Amsterdam, which was a thriving center for map publishing and cartography during that time.

Pierre Mortier was known for his involvement in the cartography and map publishing business. He published a wide range of maps, atlases, and geographical works, making significant contributions to the field.

Mortier is particularly noted for producing atlases and map collections. One of his most famous works is the "Atlas Nouveau," first published in 1693. This atlas featured maps of various regions and was highly regarded for its quality and accuracy.

Mortier often collaborated with other prominent mapmakers and cartographers of his time. He worked with cartographers such as Nicolas Sanson and Alexis-Hubert Jaillot, and he used their maps in his publications.

Mortier's maps were known for their decorative elements, including elaborate cartouches, illustrations, and artistic details. These elements added to the aesthetic appeal of his maps.

His maps covered a wide range of geographic regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, reflecting the expanding knowledge of the world during the late 17th century.
