The East Indies refers to the region of Southeast Asia, which includes countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and other surrounding regions. At the time of the making of this map, this region was of great importance due to its natural resources, its maritime trade and its strategic position in the trade routes between Europe and Asia.

After his death in 1724, his heirs continued the business under the name "Homann Heirs" or "Homannianis Heredes" (Latin for "Heirs of Homann").
The Homann Heirs publishing firm became one of the most prominent and successful mapmaking enterprises of the time. They produced a wide range of maps, atlases, and globes that were highly regarded for their accuracy and detail. Their maps covered various regions of the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, and encompassed different subjects such as geography, topography, astronomy, and historical events.
