Alexis-Hubert Jaillot (1632-1712), also known as Hubert Jaillot, was a French cartographer who produced significant maps during the 17th and 18th centuries. One of his notable works is the "Mappe-Monde Geo-Hydrographique, ou Description Generale du Globe Terrestre et Aquatique en Deux Plans-Hemispheres ou Sont Exactement Remarquees en General Toutes Les Parties De La Terre et de L'Eau, Suivant les Relations Les Plus Nouvelles." This roughly translates to "Geo-Hydrographic World Map, or General Description of the Terrestrial and Aquatic Globe in Two Hemispheric Plans, Wherein All Parts of the Earth and Water are Accurately Marked in General, According to the Latest Accounts."

This map, as the title suggests, presents a comprehensive representation of the world, both on land and water. It consists of two hemispheres and includes detailed geographical features based on the latest information available during Jaillot's time. It aimed to provide an up-to-date and accurate portrayal of the Earth's continents, oceans, and other geographic elements.

The map by Jaillot often featured decorative elements, including elaborate cartouches, illustrations, and ornate borders, which added to its visual appeal. It was created using copperplate engraving techniques, which allowed for precise and detailed rendering of the map's features.

Alexis-Hubert Jaillot (1632-1712) was a French cartographer and mapmaker who worked during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He was born in Franche-Comté, France, and initially trained as a sculptor before turning his focus to cartography.

Jaillot is best known for his large and decorative maps, which were highly regarded for their artistic beauty and cartographic accuracy. He collaborated with renowned cartographers of his time, such as Nicolas Sanson and Pierre Duval, and often based his maps on their earlier works.

One of Jaillot's most significant contributions was his involvement in the publication of "Atlas Nouveau," which was first published in 1674. This atlas consisted of several volumes and contained maps of various regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The maps in "Atlas Nouveau" were known for their elaborate details, vibrant colors, and decorative elements, making them visually striking.

Jaillot's maps were often printed on a large scale, allowing for intricate and clear representations of geographical features. He utilized copperplate engraving techniques to achieve fine detail and clarity in his maps. His maps were popular and widely distributed throughout Europe during his time.

Alexis-Hubert Jaillot's contributions to cartography were significant in the development of mapmaking during the late 17th century.
