Abraham Ortelius was a notable Flemish cartographer and geographer who lived from 1527 to 1598. He is best known for his work in creating the world's first modern atlas, titled "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" or "The Theater of the World." The first edition of this atlas was published in 1570, and it went through several editions and expansions in subsequent years.

One of the significant maps included in Ortelius' atlas is the "Typus Orbis Terrarum" (or "Map of the World"), which was first published in 1570 and updated in later editions. This map is considered one of the earliest examples of a world map based on a modern scientific approach. It depicted the known continents, countries, and regions of the time, based on the geographical knowledge available during the 16th century.

Ortelius' map featured the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, along with their respective countries and regions. The map was designed in a manner that allowed it to be easily folded and included in the atlas. It was accompanied by descriptive texts and historical information to provide context and additional knowledge to the readers.

Ortelius' work marked a significant milestone in the history of cartography, as it brought together various maps from different sources, corrected errors, and standardized the representation of geographical features. His approach of compiling and organizing existing maps into an atlas format influenced later cartographers and contributed to the advancement of geographic knowledge.
