"Suite de la Carte de L'Indoustan. IIe. Feuille" provides a detailed representation of the Indian subcontinent, including the major geographical features, coastlines, rivers, and cities. It likely includes information on the political divisions, such as the regions and states that existed during that time. The map would also feature key landmarks, ports, and possibly information related to trade routes and navigation.
Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was a French cartographer, hydrographer, and geographer. He is considered one of the most important cartographers of the 18th century. Bellin served as the official hydrographer to the French king, Louis XV, and was a member of the prestigious French naval institution, the Depot de la Marine.
Throughout his career, Bellin produced numerous maps, charts, and atlases covering various regions of the world. He made significant contributions to the field of maritime cartography and is known for his accurate and detailed representations of coastlines, islands, and navigational information.
Bellin's works encompassed a wide range of geographic areas, including the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. His maps often featured decorative elements, including decorative cartouches and compass roses, adding artistic flair to his cartographic works.
Some of Bellin's notable works include "Le Petit Atlas Maritime" (1764), "Hydrographie Françoise" (1756), and his contributions to the "Encyclopédie" edited by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert.
