"Byzantium Nunc Constantinopolis" is a famous map created by Georg Braun, a German geographer and publisher, and Frans Hogenberg, a Flemish engraver, in 1572. The map is part of their monumental work, "Civitates Orbis Terrarum" (Cities of the World), which was published in six volumes between 1572 and 1617. The "Civitates Orbis Terrarum" is considered one of the earliest and most comprehensive city atlas collections.

The map "Byzantium Nunc Constantinopolis" depicts the city of Constantinople, present-day Istanbul, Turkey. Constantinople was the capital of the Byzantine Empire and one of the most significant cities in the world at the time. The map showcases the layout and various landmarks of the city, providing valuable information about its architecture, fortifications, and urban planning during the Renaissance period.

Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg collaborated to create numerous detailed maps of cities across Europe and other parts of the world, contributing greatly to the dissemination of geographical knowledge during their time.

Georg Braun (also known as Georgius Braunus) was a German cleric, geographer, and cartographer born on March 23, 1541, in Cologne, Germany. He is best known for his significant contributions to the world of cartography and his work on the renowned city atlas, "Civitates Orbis Terrarum" (Cities of the World).

Braun studied theology and became a Catholic cleric, but he also had a keen interest in geography and mapmaking. He collaborated with the Flemish engraver Frans Hogenberg to create the "Civitates Orbis Terrarum," which was published in six volumes between 1572 and 1617. The work contained over 500 bird's-eye view maps and illustrations of cities from various regions around the world.

Frans Hogenberg (c. 1535 - c. 1590) was a Flemish engraver and mapmaker who is renowned for his contributions to the field of cartography. He was born in Mechelen, which was part of the Spanish Netherlands (present-day Belgium).
