Henricus Hondius (1597-1651) was a Dutch cartographer, engraver, and publisher. He was born in Amsterdam, the son of the famous cartographer Jodocus Hondius. Henricus continued his father's work and became one of the leading cartographers of his time.

Hondius was known for his skills in engraving and mapmaking. He produced and published numerous maps, atlases, and globes, which were highly regarded for their accuracy and craftsmanship. He collaborated with prominent geographers and explorers of his era, such as Gerard Mercator and John Speed, to create and improve maps.

One of Hondius' notable works is the "Atlas Novus," first published in 1636. This atlas included maps of various parts of the world, incorporating the latest geographical knowledge of the time. Hondius also created maps for John Speed's "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine" and collaborated with other mapmakers to produce the first detailed maps of Africa and the Americas.

Hondius' maps were widely distributed and had a significant impact on the dissemination of geographic information during the 17th century. His cartographic style influenced future generations of mapmakers, and his maps are still sought after by collectors and historians today.

Henricus Hondius passed away in 1651, but his contributions to cartography continue to be recognized and appreciated for their historical and artistic value.
