Based on original Dutch surveys by the renowned hydrographer Gerard van Keulen, the chart reflects the transfer of advanced Dutch maritime knowledge to British navigation during the great age of Atlantic commerce and naval expansion.

The map provides a detailed representation of Curaçao, one of the most strategically important islands in the southern Caribbean.
