Pieter van der Aa was a Dutch publisher and cartographer who lived from 1659 to 1733. He was known for his work in publishing and mapmaking during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. One of his notable works is the map titled "Nova Orbis Terraquei Tabula Accuratissimi Delineata," which was published in 1713.

The map "Nova Orbis Terraquei Tabula Accuratissimi Delineata" is a world map that aimed to provide an accurate depiction of the Earth. It was based on the geographical knowledge available at that time and included information gathered from explorations and voyages of the period. The map showed continents, countries, oceans, and major cities, as well as some geographical features like mountains and rivers.

Van der Aa's map was notable for its decorative elements, including elaborate cartouches, intricate borders, and detailed illustrations. These artistic elements made the map visually appealing and added to its value as a decorative piece. The map was created using copperplate engraving, a technique commonly used in mapmaking during that era.

"Nova Orbis Terraquei Tabula Accuratissimi Delineata" was part of a larger atlas called "La Galerie Agréable du Monde" (The Pleasant Gallery of the World), which contained maps and prints of various regions. Van der Aa's atlas was highly regarded and widely distributed, contributing to the dissemination of geographic knowledge during the early 18th century.

Van der Aa was also known for his city plans and maps of regions within Europe. He produced numerous maps of cities such as Amsterdam, Paris, London, and Rome, as well as regional maps of countries like England, France, and Italy.

In addition to his cartographic work, Van der Aa was involved in publishing books and periodicals. He produced several editions of the famous French encyclopedic work, "Description de l'Univers" (Description of the Universe), originally authored by Alain Manesson-Mallet.
